"HE'S GOT THE TOWN BY THE THROAT!"
- Director: Gordon Wiles
- Genre: Crime, Drama, Romance
- Studio: King Brothers Productions
- Black & White | Duration: 100 Mins
|
Overview:
Daniel Fuchs's novel Low Company is the source for this psychological crime drama. Produced by Frank and Maurice King, who'd scored a success the previous year with the low-budget Dillinger, it's directed with what might be called docudramatic sensationalism by Gordon Wiles (who'd won an art direction Oscar for Transatlantic 15 years earlier). As the wounded racketeer reminiscing about his misdemeanours and his rise from the slums to the Mob hierarchy, Barry Sullivan gives an impressively dour performance. However, Sheldon Leonard's sinister nemesis is even more imposingly plausible.
